BONNYVILLE – It looks like Santa Claus will be making a trip to the Town of Bonnyville after all.

After hearing that both the town and City of Cold Lake cancelled St. Nick’s visit due provincial mandates, the Bonnyville and District Chamber of Commerce and Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) made a very important call to the North Pole to see if something could be done.

“Everyone has been through a lot this past year, especially our children,” expressed chamber director Serina Parsons. “The holiday spirit will not be taken either, so we thought outside of the box and found a way to bring Santa to them. We’re all about the community and we can’t wait to see smiling kids when they look at Santa on Dec. 6.”

Santa agreed to a trip, but stressed the importance of keeping every good little girl and boy safe for his visit.

With this in mind, Santa will be escorted by the Bonnyville RCMP, a reindeer, and will be waving to residents from a fire truck. Everyone must remain on their own property to ensure everyone’s safety, especially the big man in red.

“The BRFA is all about serving the community and in a time where people can’t travel and socialize, we believe it’s important to maintain on holiday tradition,” said regional fire chief Jay Melvin. “It will be our honour to transport Santa to the community.”

The drive around town will start at noon on Sunday, Dec. 6. The community will be divided into zones, which will be released in order of visits before the big day.
