Christian Legge, 11, will shave his head for the sixth time on March 10 in support of cancer research. The foundation he supports is called Young Adult Cancer Canada, with the slogan Shave for the Brave. A fundraiser dance and silent auction was held in Bonnyville to help Legge reach his goal was a success. Though Christian lives out east, his father and step-mother, Trevor and Joanne Legge, both live in the Bonnyville area, as well as many other family members and supporters. Family members organized the dance and silent auction to support Christian when he shaves his head in March. The dance took place at the Beaver River Fish and Game Club on Saturday, Feb. 25. Doors opened at 8 p.m. with the dance that followed an hour later. "There were people here at 8 p.m. to get in," said Joanne Legge, happy with the turnout at the event. In total, about 125 people came out to support Christian and the Shave for the Brave organization, fundraising approximately $5,500. Legge said this was quite an improvement from last year's fundraiser dance. "This is our second year. The first year we did it in Ardmore. We didn't advertise and we just told family, so we only had about 50 to 60 people," said Legge. Family members also said the community has been a great supporter. About 35 to 40 auction items were donated for the silent auction and about the same number in door prizes, as well as monetary donations. A bake sale fundraiser will be held during Saturday's Farmer's Market at the C2 on March 3, a week before Christian shaves his head.
