Over one year after the murder of an 83-year-old Bonnyville man, the siblings charged with first-degree murder in relation to his death appeared in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse for a preliminary hearing.

The brother and sister charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of an 83-year-old Bonnyville man appeared in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse for a preliminary hearing.

Frank James Frenchman, 25, and Arizona Chastity Frenchman, 20, from the Bonnyville/Kehewin area appeared in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse from Nov. 27 to 30 for a preliminary hearing.

The Frenchmans were arrested and charged with first-degree murder after Alfred Wagner, an 83-year-old Bonnyville man, was found dead in his home on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016.

The RCMP's Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called in after local officers determined Wagner's death suspicious. Police believed the incident was a random act, and there was no prior relationship between the Frenchmans and the victim.

Police were also informed that Wagner's truck, a 1974 Dodge D200 pickup, was missing, and was later found on the Kehewin Cree Nation.

On Oct. 18, 2016, Frank James Frenchman was arrested near Edmonton and charged with one count of first-degree murder. His sister, Arizona Chastity Frenchman, was arrested and also charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016.

Due to a publication ban, the details of the preliminary hearing can't be released. The Frenchmans will appear in the St. Paul Provincial Courthouse for the judge's decision on Dec. 12 after the hearing was adjourned.
