BONNYVILLE - In a three-day period over the past week, Bonnyville RCMP received six reports of stolen vehicles. In four of those thefts the vehicles were left running with the keys inside.

"Bonnyville RCMP cannot impress enough the importance of taking the steps to prevent vehicle theft," said Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke, Detachment Commander at the Bonnyville detachment. "The vehicles that have not yet been recovered can be found on the MD’s Voyent Alert App."

Police recover truck

In the early morning hours of March 9, Bonnyville RCMP were dispatched to check on what appeared to be an abandoned Ford F150 on Range Road 485 near Highway 55.

"Upon arrival, the members determined the truck was one that had been stolen in Bonnyville two days previous. There were three occupants inside the truck, all of whom were arrested for possession of stolen property," according to Bonnyville RCMP.

One of the three occupants also had an outstanding warrant. Simon Cardinal, 29, of Cold Lake was charged with possession of a stolen truck over $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded in custody and appeared in court on March 10.

A 22-year-old woman from Cold Lake and a 33-year-old woman from Elizabeth Métis Settlement were both released on undertakings for possession of a stolen truck over $5,000 and are set to appear in court on May 2. The truck was returned to its owner, according to police.

Suspicious occupants

On March 6 at 3 p.m., an MD Public Safety Peace Officer pulled over a Dodge Ram with two suspicious occupants. RCMP attended the scene to assist.

"The vehicle was determined to have been stolen three days earlier from Cold Lake," according to RCMP. The two occupants were arrested for possession of a stolen truck over $5,000. Both were released on paperwork with a court date of March 28.

Stolen SUV

On March 9 at 9 a.m., Cold Lake RCMP received a report of a stolen 2021 white Chevrolet Trailblazer. A few ours later, an off duty RCMP member spotted the vehicle in Bonnyville and identified the driver and passenger.

"Several members converged in the area of the SUV but attempts to have it pull over were unsuccessful," according to Bonnyville RCMP. Within an hour, both suspects - Cody Lacombe, 24, of Cold Lake and Katie Fiddler, 20, of Cold Lake - were located inside the stolen SUV arriving at a residence in Cold Lake.

"They were both arrested by Cold Lake RCMP and taken into custody," according to RCMP.

"They were both taken before a Justice of the Peace and both remanded in custody until at least March 15 when they will appear in court. The duo face additional charges out of Cold Lake for offences they committed there," according to Bonnyville RCMP.
