BONNYVILLE – A 19-year-old woman from Bonnyville is heading to court and will have her vehicle seized for 60 days, after being found behind the wheel while suspended for a second time.

During the afternoon of Feb. 27, a member of Bonnyville RCMP was on patrol in the area of 40 Street and 43 Avenue when they noticed a Chrysler 200 car with expired registration.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was allegedly found to be suspended. This was the second time the woman was found driving while suspended, according to police.

The driver was arrested and issued a ticket for driving while suspended, which comes with a mandatory court appearance that was sent for April 25.

The officer exercised discretion and further issued two warnings for failing to provide insurance and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. If tickets had been issued those fines likely would have totaled $567, according to local police.

“Typically, when a driver is found to be suspended the vehicle is seized for 30 days, but because this was her second offence, the vehicle was towed and will remain seized for 60 days,” explained Staff Sgt. Sarah Parke.

The 19-year-old was released at the scene.
