It was the 26th annual Ardmore Duck Race on Sunday, June 4, and 2,000 little yellow ducks showed up to do their part for Ardmore School.

The event is held as an annual fundraiser for programs that wouldn't normally be funded by Alberta Education.

The afternoon featured face painting, a dunk tank, glitter tattoos, and of course, the duck race.

This year the race alone raised $20,000.

Kristy Tetreau, one of the organizers of the event, said this was one of the best years yet.

“It's grown substantially as we have moved through the years,” she expressed. “It's especially great, because the whole community has just come together and helped us out.”

All of the funding will be used for an outdoor classroom, outdoor gardens, and improvements to the school's library/learning commons.

Shannon Sigaty's children go to Ardmore School. This was her second time attending the duck race.

“The kids love this event,” she said.

Growing up in Edmonton, she had never heard of a duck race fundraiser.

“I though it was a great idea,” Sigaty added. “I just love how the community comes out and everybody has fun.”

Knowing that the community pulls together to support Ardmore School means a lot to her.

Also getting into the spirit of the duck race was Ardmore School principal Ken Pshyk.

“It's nice to see the principal be wiling to go into a dunk tank,” laughed Sigaty.
