BONNYVILLE - As the holiday season nears, the Town of Bonnyville is encouraging residents to dig out their Christmas decorations and ‘Light up Bonnyville.’

Last week, the Town of Bonnyville announced the Light up Bonnyville initiative. The new event gives “Christmas lovers” a chance to win prizes and the title of best decorated home in town.

“We’re excited to invite everyone who decorates their home in Bonnyville to enter this contest,” said Town Events Committee Chair Neil Langridge. “Our Town always has such amazingly decorated homes around the holidays, and we wanted to add a bit of a bonus for them this year.”

All residents in the Town of Bonnyville can take part. Judges will make their way through the community and judge the Christmas displays from outside and will not walk on private property, which means only the decorations visible to judges will be judged.

Residents must be registered to take part by Dec. 11 at 4:30 p.m.

Judging criteria will include design, creative use of lights and decorations, display and placement of decorations, animated objects, and overall presentation.

Judging will take place from Dec. 11-13 and participants are required to have their lights on from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the judging nights.

The top three winners will be announced on Dec. 15.

Along with the top three winners, there will also be a Fans’ Choice award, decided by the public.

Prizes will include gift cards to local businesses.

“Keeping the prizes local was really important for us,” said Doreen Kushnir, the Town’s Events Administration Assistant. “We thought this would be a great way for people to finish up their Christmas shopping and to support local at the same time.” T

here is no cost to enter the contest. Registration forms can be found at the Town Hall (4917-49 Ave.) or online at town.bonnyville.ab.ca.
