BONNYVILLE - Town of Bonnyville council has agreed to proceed with hiring Stantec to complete a Community Recreation Plan for the Lakeshore Drive Park area, despite the quote coming in higher than the two other companies that submitted bids.

During the March 26 Town of Bonnyville council meeting, administration presented information to council, stating a preference for Stantec, since the municipality has worked with the company in the past, and it also received the highest RFP score of the three groups.

According to the information presented, Stantec was ahead of the other competitors in deliverables and the work promised.

Mayor Elisa Brosseau noted that it was apparent Stantec had knowledge of nearby Jessie Lake.

Council had budgeted $75,000 for the recreation plan, but the total amount required if the Town proceeds with Stantec would be $77,000, with the extra funds coming from general capital.

“The purpose of this plan is to achieve council’s vision and have a forward-thinking view of possible recreational or cultural upgrades that residents want along the Lakeshore Drive Park area,” reads information presented at the meeting.

The successful firm will be tasked with creating the recreation plan, which will include doing a residential survey, hosting stakeholder engagement session and community workshop, creating of a conceptual plan, and another round of engagement sessions involving stakeholders and the community to review the plan.

“Administration is of the opinion that Stantec’s previous environmental analysis on Jessie Lake will benefit the process and keep engagement outcomes realistic and achievable from a regulatory perspective,” reads the information presented.

A motion to move ahead with hiring Stantec for the project was carried by council.

“I’m really excited to get this project going,” said Brosseau.
