BONNYVILLE – Bonnyville residents age 17 and under are being invited by the Town of Bonnyville to enter their vehicle naming contest. The contest involves naming the Public Works Department’s new street sweeper and hydro vac truck.
Information from the Town of Bonnyville says the contest is a fun, new way to connect with the community, and an opportunity to give their hard-working vehicles names that “reflect the spirit of Bonnyville."
Entries must be submitted by 12 p.m. on May 16. Contestants can choose names for both vehicles, and submissions will be reviewed by the Town Council and staff where five names will be shortlisted. Bonnyville residents will then get the chance to vote for their favourites.
“Whether it’s clever, creative, or just plain fun, we want to hear your best name ideas,” according to the Town of Bonnyville.
Town of Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau said the contest is a way to engage with young residents and build community pride.
“We know how imaginative our youth are, and we can’t wait to see what names they come up with,” said Brosseau.
The Town of Bonnyville provided information, explaining the jobs each vehicle will be doing, and giving contestants an idea of what type of vehicles they will be helping name.
“The street sweeper removes debris, trash, and pollutants from road surfaces, which prevents them from entering storm drains and polluting waterways. The hydro vac exposes underground utilities before doing dig repairs, along with cleaning sewer mains and blocked sewer lines,” according to the Town.
The winner will be announced during National Public Works Week, which begins on May 18.
