BONNYVILLE  - The Town of Bonnyville thinks they have projects worth financially supporting, and they're pitching them to the federal government.

Last month the town received notice from the federal government that they were accepting applications for the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF).

“The Government of Canada launched this to help organizations improve key community gathering spaces to bring Canadians back together once public measures have eased,” explained town CAO Bill Rogers during the July 13 council meeting.

“We reviewed our capital budget and have identified projects that could be included, particularly under the trail lighting and extension construction that might be available,” he added.

The town has budgeted just under $1.5 million for trails and trail lighting projects for 2021.

The CCRF will provide up to $750,000 to eligible applicants.

According to Rogers, the town has also applied for a Community Health Initiative grant in the amount of $250,000 for the same project, which can be used with other grant funding including the CCRF.

“Between the two, we’re proposing to submit an application for $500,000 (to the CCRF) for this project and, should both grant applications be approved, we would have $750,000 in successful funding to apply to next year’s budget for these projects,” Rogers expressed.
