BONNYVILLE – Two new coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Bonnyville-area this week.

While Bonnyville had previously gone for weeks without a new case, according to the province's COVID-19 statistics, as of July 7 there are two active cases in area. This brings the total number of cases up to eight, with six recovered and no deaths.

The Cold Lake-area, as set out on the map, is still sitting at three recovered cases and zero active.

A spokesperson for Alberta Health said they can't comment on the specific cases due to patient confidentiality, but if there is a risk to the public it will be reported.

"In all cases, AHS immediately takes action. Health officials conduct contact tracing and anyone at risk of exposure is isolated and tested. AHS will also work with employers and confirmed cases to determine the source of exposure and if there is evidence of epidemiologically linked transmission.

It’s important to remember that this virus is still with us. The best way for Albertans to protect themselves is by practicing physical distancing, staying home if sick, and following all the public health guidance available. This is the best way to protect ourselves and our friends and families."
