Parents Murry and Julie Mackintosh of Bonnyville were obviously excited at the arrival of their first child together a couple of days ahead of schedule. Having the first baby of 2013 delivered at the Bonnyville Health Centre was an added bonus.

"Dad is doing awesome," an obviously thrilled Murry told the Bonnyville Nouvelle Friday, when asked how he was feeling as he prepared to take his family home from the hospital.

Mom and baby were doing fine and the family was eager to get home to begin the busy life of having a newborn in the home. Murry works with Alberta Heavy Oil and Julie is employed with Clean Harbours in Bonnyville.

The couple "very much appreciated" the gift of a layette from the Bonnyville Health Centre Ladies Auxiliary presented in celebration of Charlie's arrival as the first baby of 2013 in the community.

"It's a beautiful gift," Murry said expressing his thanks on behalf of the family to the auxiliary. Items ranged from sleepers and a teddy bear to a beautiful afghan, as well as blankets and numerous "knickknacks" required for baby care.

Long-time auxiliary member Olive Martin said the auxiliary has been presenting a layette to Bonnyville's new year's baby for many years and always looks forward to each year's new arrival.
