Woman fined for possessing "substantial quantity" of meth

Court-Report-1

BONNYVILLE - A 34-year-old woman has been sentenced to pay a $1,000 fine after police found 19.91-grams of methamphetamine in her purse during a traffic stop.

Local RCMP were conducting patrols on Dec. 1, 2019 when they pulled over a vehicle Amanda Gale Waskahat was a passenger in.

Waskahat was wanted on warrants at the time, and after placing her under arrest, officers searched her belongings, including her purse. Inside, police found nearly 20-grams of methamphetamine.

St. Paul chief Crown prosecutor Jordan Kerr detailed the events during Waskahat's March 3 court appearance where she pleaded guilty to possession of meth.

He noted the "significant quantity" of drugs Waskahat had at the time of her arrest.

Honourable Judge Kathleen Williams agreed meth has "a terrible impact" on the community, and sentenced Waskahat to pay a $1,000 fine or serve eight days in prison.
