Refugees with engineering technology backgrounds are getting a leg up with two initiatives being offered by the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), designed to get foreign-trained professionals assessed, accredited and working in the province sooner.

While investigating a business break in that occurred on Feb. 5, Bonnyville RCMP tracked the alleged suspect to their primary residence and recovered an estimated $40,000 worth of stolen equipment, including a Kubota tractor that had been stolen in July of 2022.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a St. Paul man wanted in connection to an assault that took place in the parking lot of a Bonnyville grocery store on Feb. 10.

In the same week that Bonnyville RCMP was taking part in Operation Cold Start – locating 85 vehicles idling unattended with keys inside – police also received nine reports of vehicle thefts in the Bonnyville area. Only four of those vehicles have been recovered. 

Bonnyville RCMP are wanting to locate 33-year-old Stephanie Gadwa. Stephanie was last seen on Feb. 11, in Bonnyville.

Bonyville Jr. A Pontiacs are on a roll having won 10 out of their last 11 games. Last week was also a very special time for players who have travelled far distances to play with the Jr. A team.

The decision on whether or not the MD of Bonnyville will keep or rescind the Financial Assistance for Victims of Fire Policy, has once again been left unresolved. Council has decided to bring the matter to a committee of the whole meeting for possible amendments to the policy.

Premier Academy’s team Xplosion has won their second bid to compete abroad in two years. Following a stellar performance in Edmonton on Jan. 20, the team will have its choice of four international cheer competitions to compete in next year.

As of May 1, MD of Bonnyville residents can expect to receive a bill from the municipality if the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority is called to suppress a fire on their property. These changes are the result of amendments to the municipality's Fire Suppression and Cost Recovery Policy council approved on Jan. 24.
