Cold Lake evacuation centre for Fort McMurray evacuees moved to FCSS building

The City of Cold Lake announced on Thursday morning it would be moving the reception centre for Fort McMurray evacuees to the Cold Lake and District FCSS (5220 54 Street).

COLD LAKE - The City of Cold Lake announced on Thursday morning it would be moving the reception centre for Fort McMurray evacuees to the Cold Lake and District FCSS (5220 54 Street).

The evacuation centre was previously located at the Cold Lake Agriplex.

"As of this morning, 171 evacuees have been registered and offered lodging and food," according to the City of Cold Lake.

An evacuation order remains in effect for some areas of the city of For McMurray, including Abasand, Beacon Hill, Grayling Terrace and Prairie Creek, due to a wildfire that is "approximately 4.5 km from Hwy 63/Hwy 881 intersection and approximately 5.5 km from the landfill," according to Thursday morning's update from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).

According to the RMWB, 2,133 evacuees registered at an in-person reception centre in Lac La Biche, Cold Lake and Edmonton.
