Cold Lake hosts NESAA high school curling Zone Championships

High school teams from across the northeast region travelled to Cold Lake last weekend to compete in the NEASAA mixed, boys', and girls' zone curling championships. This weekend, St. Paul will host ASAA curling provincials.

COLD LAKE  - Over the span of two days, high school curling teams from across the north east came together in Cold Lake to compete in the North East Alberta Schools Athletics Associations (NEASAA) Zone Curling Championships.

A round-robin style bonspiel took place on Friday for teams competing in mixed, boys and girls categories. By Saturday afternoon, 12 teams were still throwing rocks with hopes of earning a medal or a top spot to compete in the upcoming provincial tournament to be held in St. Paul March 2-4.

Teams taking both gold medals and the N.E. Zone banner on Saturday included Kitscoty High School's mixed curling team, École McTavish Public High School's boys team, and the St. Paul Regional High School girls' team.

Other teams from the region who will heading of to provincials include the Holy Rosary High School boys' team, who earned a wild card spot, and St. Paul's mixed and boys' teams, as they will be hosting the tournament.

Provincial games will begin on Thursday morning at the St. Paul Curling Rink. Finals are set for Saturday.

Fourth Place - Innisfree Delnorte School

Boys Curling 

First Place - École McTavish Public High School

Second Place - Holy Rosary High School

Third Place - J.R. Robson School

Fourth Place - St. Paul Regional High School

Girls Curling

First Place - St. Paul Regional High School

Second Place - Holy Rosary High School

Third Place - J.R. Robson School

Fourth Place - F.G. Miller High School
