COLD LAKE - The Hon. David McGuinty, Minister of National Defence, visited CFB Cold Lake on Aug. 13 as part of a five-base cross-Canada tour.

“It's to listen and learn . . . What's working, where we need to improve,” he said, noting he also met with members to discuss infrastructure, housing, health care, and military family services.

McGuinty outlined the new $2-billion annual compensation package for CAF members, including a 20 per cent pay increase for first four-year privates and bonuses of up to $6,000 for senior members.

Calling Cold Lake “a phenomenally important base . . . with a direct link to NORAD,” he told those in attendance, “Your work is not going unnoticed . . . We need you. We respect you and we will be there for you.”

More to come...
