Pancake breakfast brings seniors together in Cold Lake

Cold Lake and District FCSS kicked off Seniors Week in the tastiest way possible, with a hot pancake breakfast that drew dozens of seniors to reconnect, celebrate, and get informed.

COLD LAKE - Cold Lake and District FCSS kicked off Seniors’ Week in the tastiest way, with a hot pancake breakfast that drew dozens of seniors to reconnect, celebrate, and get informed.

“Traditionally, FCSS has done the pancake breakfast, and it is a good start to the week. Of course breakfast [is a] great start to our day,” said Brenda Parsons, the social programs coordinator with FCSS.

Held on June 2, the breakfast launched a full week of events designed to honour local seniors and connect them with valuable programs and resources, with daily activities planned by multiple community organizations.

“We have so many events going on during the week and so many different organizations that assist seniors with different things,” Parsons said.

From barbecues and safety workshops to first aid training and smartphone tutorials, the week was packed. Informational displays, including elder abuse awareness and medical emergency packs were also on hand.

“Seniors are the backbone of our community,” Parsons said. “They are volunteering in every organization, every corner of the city. You won't find an organization without a senior volunteer.”

The breakfast not only honoured the legacy of seniors in Cold Lake but reminded everyone that learning, volunteering, and community connections do not have an age limit.

“There’s always learning going on. Seniors learn too.”
