COLD LAKE – One of Cold Lake’s biggest summer traditions is set to make waves during the August long weekend.
Aqua Days will take over Kinosoo Beach on Aug. 2, offering free entertainment and activities for all ages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with fireworks later wrapping up the day at 10 p.m.
“First launched in 2012, Aqua Days was inspired by a desire to celebrate Cold Lake’s natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and inclusive community culture,” said Katie Pankhurst, Community Event Programmer for the City of Cold Lake.
Visitors can expect a beach transformed into a high-energy festival zone, complete with mermaids and pirates, balloon twisting, circus acts, a foam party, a vendor alley, and a giant slip n’ slide.
The always popular Cardboard Boat Races kick off at 1 p.m., bringing creative chaos to the shoreline as participants attempt to stay afloat in their homemade vessels.
“Set against the stunning backdrop of Cold Lake, the festival transforms the beach into a full-day interactive playground,” Pankhurst said. “Few events in the region can match its combination of water-focused activities, free entertainment, and day-to-night programming.”
Aqua Days has become a staple in the Lakeland summer calendar.
“Over the years, it has grown into one of northeastern Alberta’s most distinctive summer festivals, drawing thousands of visitors annually,” Pankhurst said. “We typically get a few thousand people every year, depending on the weather.”
