COLD LAKE - The Cold Lake Agricultural Society played host to the PAWsitive Dog Sports Association's 21st annual dog agility competition on Feb. 16 and 17.
The event, a celebration of canine agility and camaraderie, brought together 72 teams from Fort McMurray, Edmonton, Calgary, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, and Red Deer. The competition showcased not only the agility of furry friends, but also the unwavering support from local organizations and the spirit of unity among participants.
The competition kicked off at 8 a.m. on Saturday with a challenging course featuring hoops, known as weavers. The canine participants raced against the clock to navigate the course efficiently, showcasing their agility and skill.
The course required the dogs to complete certain elements multiple times, including the weavers, adding an extra layer of complexity to the competition.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the Top Dog Awards, recognizing outstanding performances in different categories.
The winners of the awards included:
- Intro Category: Roze Coutu and Nova from Cold Lake
- Novice Category: Roberta Shields and Tom from Cold Lake
- Open Category: Michele Stade and Mystic from Edmonton
- Elite Category: Kim Newell and Fox from Calgary
