Snow Fever draws people in from across the Lakeland

Over the Family Day weekend the Lakeland region was swept up by the Snow Fever event in Cold Lake. The three-day event brought people to Cold Lake from across the Lakeland.

COLD LAKE - Over the Family Day weekend the Lakeland region was swept up by the Snow Fever event in Cold Lake. Families from across the region gathered to participate in winter activities, transforming the weekend into a memorable celebration.

After the weekend wrapped up, Heather Miller, the Recreation Programs and Services Manager at the City of Cold Lake, expressed her delight, saying, “Our events on Sunday were a great hit with the community. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the field was filled with families from across the Lakeland.”

The success of Snow Fever was attributed to a collaborative effort between various entities, including 4 Wing, the MD of Bonnyville, and the City of Cold Lake. The partnership aimed to provide a diverse range of activities that catered to the interests of families and individuals of all ages.

The festivities kicked off on Feb. 17 at Kinosoo Ridge, where the day was filled with free ski and snowboard lessons, family tubing, live music, and a lively photo booth. Participants embraced the winter wonderland, enjoying the thrills of skiing and snowboarding while creating lasting memories with their families.

On Feb. 18, the Thomas Varughese Memorial Field, located just behind the Cold Lake Energy Centre, became the focal point of Snow Fever. The field was transformed into a winter playground featuring ice slides, outdoor skating, a warming fire pit, and delightful sleigh rides.

The grand finale of Snow Fever unfolded on Feb. 19 at 4 Wing, within the Col JJ. Parr Sports Centre.

The venue buzzed with activity, offering a diverse range of options for attendees. Inflatables added a touch of excitement, wagon rides provided a leisurely way to explore the surroundings, fire pits, and various skating options ensured that the ice remained alive with laughter and fun. Additionally, swimming activities were added for indoor recreation.

Looking back on the event, Miller expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort and the overwhelming community response.

“We look forward to partnering with 4 Wing and the MD of Bonnyville again next year to make Snow Fever a continued regional event.”
