A new initiative could help residents gain essential cooking skills while addressing food insecurity in Cold Lake.

With long-time City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland not running for re-election, Sherri Buckle, executive director of the Cold Lake Chamber of Commerce, has publicly announced her decision to run for the city’s top job in the 2025 municipal election.  

The Government of Alberta’s $8.6 billion investment to build and modernize over 100 schools across the province, will include planning funding for Art Smith Aviation Academy, North Star Elementary School and Cold Lake Junior High, which are all part of Northern Lights Public Schools (NLPS). 

The dedication and years of service provided by members of Cold Lake Fire-Rescue was recognized during a recent City of Cold Lake council meeting.

The two officers involved in a shooting on Cold Lake First Nations on Feb. 4, 2023, acted reasonably according to a report released by Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) on March 13, 2025.

On March 7, more than 50 people gathered at the Cold Lake Energy Centre to take part in a suicide awareness walk organized by students in the Portage College Community Social Work Program.  

While the number of contract nurses working in Alberta Health Services (AHS) owned hospitals in the Lakeland has decreased, the number of locum nurses and the length of time locums are being brought in for is increasing.

"Cold Lake RCMP would like to remind motorists to give plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles, slow down, and drive for the weather conditions."

Despite hearing concerns from constituents in the Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul area, MLA Scott Cyr says the $5.2 billion deficit planned by the province is the responsible thing to do in these turbulent times.
