ELK POINT - It’s only half way through the month of February but some of the minor hockey playoffs are already starting. The early star is due in part to the provincial finals. Teams no longer compete in the zone as they did in the past.

A delegation spoke to Town of Elk Point council on Feb. 12 regarding concerns over a potential wind energy project in the Northern Valley area.

The past five years “have gone by very fast, even though COVID stole those two years,” says Dr. Adenike Ashaolu, as she prepares to close her practice in Elk Point on April 30.

“Investigation determined that an adult victim had been sleeping in the backseat of a SUV when it was stolen. The victim awoke to see that a stranger was driving the SUV, she requested the suspect to stop, to which he did not."

While the fifth Ronald McDonald Winterland Invitational hockey tournament is a standout attraction all on its own, there’s even more fun in store for Elk Point and district on the Family Day weekend.

The Elk Point Theatre Project first hit the stage of the Elk Point Allied Arts in 2015 with their rendition of ‘The Little Mermaid’ and followed up that smash hit with four years of plays that packed the theatre each spring.

Going into Sunday’s B&R Eckel’s ‘A’ event finals, Spring Park Knights skip Leonard Gadowski said all he wanted was “one point more” than Hahn Welding’s Jon Regnier in this rematch of the 2023 final.

In 2019, two members of the Elk Point RCMP detachment allegedly pointed tasers at a civilian employee, with the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigating the incident. No charges will be laid.

“I just thought I’ll help out my neighbour. And then all of a sudden, there’s so many people helping out.”
