ELK POINT - The Elk Point Palliative Care has had another busy year in 2022 to 2023, recently hosting an informative and enlightening two-day workshop, put on by the Alberta Hospice and Palliative Care Association focusing on the role of "The Volunteer in the Community" and facilitated by Iska Hollman and Betty George, both have many years of volunteering in the hospice care setting.

The workshop offered a great amount of information and tools to use as we go forward in volunteer roles. The workshop was well attended, with people coming from Elk Point. St Paul, Fishing Lake, Bonnyville, Frog Lake, Kehewin and Cold Lake areas.

The Elk Point Palliative Care Society would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who have donated to the annual Tree of Hope campaign and to all who have donated throughout the year. The Tree of Hope campaign runs from the last week of November and through the Christmas season. With these donations, the Society has been able to upkeep and update the two Palliative Care rooms in the Elk Point Health Centre, also providing comfort baskets to all patients and their families as they reside in the Palliative Care rooms.

Thanks also goes to Elk Point Further Education Charity Quilters, who have provided beautiful and comforting quilts to the Palliative Care rooms.

The Society has donated a water cooler for the Elk Point Health Centre Emergency department and a portable blanket warmer, which can be used by both acute care and Parkview.

In lieu of the Candlelight Ceremony, the Palliative Care volunteers sent out a letter of remembrance, including a packet of seeds to all families whose loved ones have passed away in the past year in the Elk Point Health Care Centre.

As another year rolls around, Elk Point Palliative Care plans to continue with our projections and goals.
