ELK POINT – The lineup of activities for this Friday’s Christmas Extravaganza, jointly hosted by the Elk Point and District Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Committee, just gets longer and longer.

Starting at 4 p.m., shoppers will be able to pick up their Extravaganza Bingo cards at any of a total of 18 participating businesses that will all be open throughout the evening, and will have until 9 p.m. to get four stamps when they make purchases at any of those businesses before they drop off their filled cards at Guardian Drugs or Home Town Grocers prior to 9 p.m. that evening for the draws for between $50 and $300 in cash prizes, dinner theatre tickets and other prizes.

At 5 p.m., the Forest of Lights will be switched  on, brightening up an increasingly dark landscape. Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be served up by the Lions Club at the EcoCentre and soon after, the Winter Wonderland  Parade will start lining up to head up Main Street at 6 p.m. At both ends of downtown by 5 p.m., Servus Credit Union will have the coffee and hot chocolate and RONA will have coffee and donuts ready to warm up the rest of the evening,  right until 9 p.m.  Also warming up the evening, there will be two fire pits, one between Elk Point Insurance and Elk Point Pharmacy on 49 Ave. and one at the staging area.

As soon as the parade has made its way all around the traditional route, Santa will head to the Cornerstone Co-op food store to find out what to put on his Christmas Eve list for the little ones, and at 7 p.m. the first hay ride will head out on the streets from the Eco Centre, jingling  all the way, while at Elk Point Curling Club, youngster from Grade 1 to 12 will have the opportunity to try their hand at Ice Bowling – a brand new sport!

Beginning at 7 p.m.,  Mountain Movers Youth Group will be hosting  an evening of cookie decorating  until 9 p.m., at their location at Railway Ave, and 49 St., right across from the Forest of Lights.

At 7:30 p.m., adults will then have their turn for fun at the Curling Club, choosing any two of curling, cribbage or darts for a fun competition.

Just after the stores close at 9 p.m., action will move to Home Town Grocers, where the Extravaganza Bingo draws will be made.

But that is far from the end of chances to win big -  from 9 a.m. on Friday morning until 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, shoppers will be able to enter at even more businesses across Elk Point for a chance to win a 65 inch Smart TV, donated by RONA, as well as many other great prizes.

What a great reason to SHOP LOCAL as the holiday season approaches.
