Elk Point 4-H Beef members weigh in, weighed up

Elk Point 4-H Beef Club held their annual Weigh Day at Kotowich Evergreen Farm on Sunday, with the starting weights of their steers carefully recorded to determine rate of gain when next spring’s shows and sale come around.

ELK POINT - Elk Point 4-H Beef Club held their annual Weigh Day at Kotowich Evergreen Farm on Sunday, with the starting weights of their steers carefully recorded to determine rate of gain when next spring’s shows and sale come around.

After information sessions when 4-H leader Dennis Kotowich explained how the cattle scale works and how to deal with bloat, members Tyson Kotowich, Cloey and Zack Germain demonstrated how to put on a halter and how best to halter break the project animals.

“You’re the next generation of farmers and you want to do it right,” Dennis Kotowich told them, before asking the members to all climb into the scale, “and we’ll all guess how much the total weight is.”
