Former Jr. B Canadien, Elk Point Sr. Elks player to be honoured at memorial tourney

Jim Vinge was a strong supporter of Elk Point Minor Hockey and the A. G. Ross Arena.

Jim Vinge was a strong supporter of Elk Point Minor Hockey and the A. G. Ross Arena. To honor his dedication to hockey and his community, the First Annual Jim Vinge Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held in Elk Point on the weekend of March 25 to 27. Money raised on this weekend will be going to the A. G. Ross Arena, Elk Point Minor Hockey and the Jim Vinge family.

The tournament is open to interested players of any skill level, age 18 and over. Players will enter as individuals and teams will be decided in a draft. Entry deadline is March 11. Many of the players that Jim played with throughout his hockey career as part of the St. Paul Junior B Canadiens, the Elk Point Senior Elks, and the Jorvik recreational hockey team have been invited to attend. We are also working with the Edmonton Oilers Alumni Association and are hoping to have some ex-Oilers playing on Saturday.

The intention is to make this an annual event that will grow to be bigger and better each year. The success of this event depends on the support of our community. We are looking for donations of items to be used for our silent and live auction. The silent auction will be set up throughout the weekend at the arena and then at the hall so please come on down and check out the items we have to offer. Some of the bigger items will be part of a live auction to be held during the Saturday evening social, which will be held at the Elks Hall. The social will include a meal, a “Hot Stove” with the former NHLers, silent and live auctions and a dance.

If you require any further information regarding entry forms, auction items or tickets for the social please contact one of the committee members: Murray Cochrane (780-645-1539), Duane Wolanuk (780-668-2959), Scott Dallaire (780-614-3613), Doug Bassett (780-645-8372), Carla Ganske (780-724-2449), Leanne Vinge (780-724-4519).
