ELK POINT – The newly renamed Laverne Wilson Public Library in Elk Point has something else new besides its name – a handsome new covered deck on its west side was completed just in time for the 2025 Summer Reading Program.
The program started last Thursday and is “Completely full with 25 kids for the summer. We are excited for some familiar faces and some new ones joining us,” according to Robin Urquhart, who was busy handing out the supplies for the day’s craft, personalized magnets. The children also enjoyed an afternoon snack and play under a huge multicoloured parachute.
This year’s theme for the Summer Reading Program is ‘Dig Deeper – Read – Investigate – Discover’ and in the weeks between now and Aug. 21, those attending the sessions will definitely be doing that. This year, in addition to the sessions at the library, the summer readers will be visiting Fort George and Buckingham House Provincial Historic Site and the Klatt farm, and will have a very special visitor, the Science Lady, who will come share her knowledge with them at the library on July 29.
