Two people charged in Elk Point following traffic stop

ELK POINT - The Elk Point RCMP detachment arrested two individuals for the unauthorized possession of a firearm after a traffic stop at the Town of Elk Point on June 19.

At around 3 a.m., while conducting patrols, members of the detachment stopped a vehicle for equipment equipment violations. During the traffic stop, members suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia and searched the vehicle.

Police seized a handgun, stolen identification cards, and bank cards, as well as "a small quantity of methamphetamine," according to a June 23 Elk Point RCMP press release.

Christopher Robinson, 43, from Bonnyville, and Tessa Sakowsky, 44, of Two Hills County were both charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Sakowsky was also charged with nine counts of illegal possession of government documents and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. She was taken before a Justice of Peace and was released with a $1,000 Promise to Pay.

Sakowsky was scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Paul on June 24.

Robinson faces other charges, such as failure to comply with a release order, and failure to comply with weapons possession order. Robinson will also appear in court in St. Paul on July 10.
