B.C. archer pleads for return of lost equipment in Lac La Biche

Bag fell out of back of truck with witness suggesting they saw someone stop and pick it up

LAC LA BICHE - An archer who travelled from Kamloops, B.C. to compete in the Team Canada archery trials and national championships underway in Lac La Biche this weekend is hoping Lac La Biche residents can help her find some missing equipment key to her competition.

Katie Britton said that at about 6:40 p.m. on Thursday (July 31) the tailgate on the truck she was travelling in was inadvertently left open while driving for about five minutes from Independent Grocers to just past Young’s Beach.

“My recurve bow and two arrow tubes containing two dozen arrows in a brown fabric case slid out enroute. It was fully strung, so the case was long,” Britton stated in an emailed plea to Lakelandtoday.ca for assistance in locating the items.

“We realized when we arrived what had happened, so immediately backtracked expecting to see it in the road as it was a few minutes prior, but it wasn’t there.”

Britton reports a witness “saw (an occupant from a) dark-coloured car picking up an object which resembled my bow case, from the road in-between Young’s Beach and Shell around the time this happened.”

She has no further details on the missing equipment and so now believes it to be stolen.

“I have reported the loss, subsequent theft to the police. It’s a 100 per cent unique bow. You cannot buy this handmade recurve riser as its speciality-made in Eastern Europe.”

Britton is pleading for its return and is asking anyone who might have information about its whereabouts to contact the  Lac La Biche RCMP at 780-404-2500 and quote file #20251106224

“I am offering a reward for its return. No questions asked,” she said.

In the meantime, Britton said she has been able to borrow replacement equipment and on Friday said the competition itself was going well. She is hopeful her own equipment will be returned.
