Bold Center and pool will open soon ... but not today.

Province's Friday Stage 2 re-launch includes recreation centres — but Lac La Biche's Bold Center and swimming pool expected to open a little later.

LAC LA BICHE - Just a little while longer... That's the message on Friday from Lac La Biche County administrative staff when it comes to the opening of the Bold Center and swimming pool.

While the provincial government announced on Tuesday that Stage 2 of their planned COVID-19 relaunch — allowing recreation facilities to reopen — would begin today (June 12), Lac La Biche County officials say they continue to work on plan to re-open the municipality's main recreation areas.

"The Bold Center is not opening today, and the pool won't as well," said Lac La Biche County's communications department manager Jihad Moghrabi. "... but we expect to be making an announcement soon."

Moghrabi said health and safety measures for the public and municipal staff are paramount with the re-opening plans — and three days of notice was a bit of a small window to work in.

The Stage 2 reopening, announced by Alberta Premier Jason Kenney last Tuesday, comes a week earlier than the province's relaunch planning document had stated.

Moghrabi says municipal officials are appreciative of the patience from the community.

"We're looking forward to welcoming back all of our patrons soon, and we hope that you've been staying healthy and active," notes the message on the Bold Center's social media page.
