Donation bins located in several spots around Lac La Biche Hamlet are ready to collect new schools supplies for the Fill the Pack Challenge.

LAC LA BICHE — With the help of the community, RCMP, Peace Officers, the Lac La Biche County Fire Department, and Lac La Biche Associated Ambulance a challenge is taking place to see who can collect the most school supplies by Aug. 28, for the first ever Fill the Pack Challenge.

The crew that gathers the least number of supplies will face the spray of a firetruck hose. The goal of the event is to gather enough donated school supplies to fill 80 backpacks for local students.

Starting immediately, residents will be able to drop off new schools supplies at several locations throughout the hamlet, however, the spot they chose will determine which local crew they are supporting.

Items needed include backpacks, lunch bags, pencil cases, white erasers, pencil crayons, rulers, glue sticks, scissors, duotangs, highlighters, pencil sharpeners, crayons, notebooks (170-page, lined), calculators, thick-tip markers, geometry sets, post-it notes, and 2-inch binders.

Cash donations will not be accepted at any location for the Fill the Pack Challenge.

Lac La Biche County will announce a date to hose down the ‘loser’ of the friendly competition when donations close.

Drop off locations include:

For Associated Ambulance - IDA and Screenshot Computers

For Fire Rescue Services - The Protective Services Building

For Peace Officers - Britton’s Your Independent Grocers and Value Drug Mart

For RCMP - The local RCMP detachment
