Crews dig up 105 Street just before paving

Crews were busy Thursday morning digging up an area along 105 Street in Lac La Biche that seemed to some residents to be ready for re-paving.

It's been a busy summer of construction on Lac La Biche streets ... and it is continuing for residents along 105 Street.
A job to replace cast iron water and sewer pipes with new pvc lines has taken four months- and the sight of work crews digging up a section of the new pipe this morning has some residents thinking it's going to be months more. Earlier in the week, residents were thinking the months-long project might finally be wrapping up as crews leveled and graded the construction zone, seemingly preparing it for an asphalt surface.

Those hopes were dashed, however, as equipment and workers were busy on Thursday morning digging up a piece of new pipe in a section of the construction zone that has been under repair since the end of May. Thursday morning's excavation came just days after survey stakes were put along the three-block section of lakeshore roadway in anticipation of gravel and asphalt.

Lac La Biche County officials have been contacted by the POST for an explanation of what happened to make the new dig necessary. But as of yet they have not responded.
Residents along the road expressed concern about the long-running construction job. Though some did say they understood that the weather over the summer months has caused some rain delays on the project ... their patience is wearing thin on a job that is taking too long.

In a Lac La Biche POST front page story from last month, the new supervisor of the project told reader the job would be finished this month with the new infrastructure in place and the road paved by early October. He told the POST that he realized the job has taken too long and blamed the weather as well as poor management on the job site before he took over.
