The Lac La Biche Culture Days are coming up this month, and one way of celebrating the French-Canadian heritage in Lac La Biche County is through a French country music style concert headlined by well-known bilingual artist, Crystal Plamondon. The Cajun and country music singer-songwriter who was born and raised in the Plamondon area will be performing at the Festival Centre on Saturday Oct.1 along with other local musicians.

The concert, “Ca va brasser” which translates to “Let’s Shake it Up” is one of many events taking part of the Alberta Culture Days celebration, starting on Friday Sept. 30 and going until Sunday Oct. 2 throughout Lac La Biche County. The region was one of many communities throughout the province chosen as a feature site to celebrate diversity within the community, as part of a bigger cultural celebration with the rest of the province.

Plamondon says she is looking forward to playing in her hometown and rejoicing in the old memories of playing live music with her community.

“Back when I was young – which was the old days - we used to have Harvest Days in Plamondon around this time of year, and it was great,” explained Plamondon. Adding that the concert will be bringing back a little bit of nostalgia for her.

Plamondon recalls when she was a kid; there were many nights that were spent outdoors, playing music and jamming. She says since then, that type of atmosphere has dwindled over the years in the hamlet.

“Since times have changed, it’s just not like that anymore,” explained Plamondon.

The artist, who moved away from Plamondon at an early age, says she found her second home in Louisiana because of the similar music culture to Plamondon.

“Part of the reason why I lived in Louisiana for so long, because it’s still like that there,” she said.

The French jamboree is free admission and will begin around seven in the evening with other local musicians opening for Plamondon.

“French Creperie from Edmonton will be coming as well as local eateries for guests to buy supper and refreshments,” said Plamondon.
