Dad and Me event offers food, socialization, and chance to learn about fish

The event took place at Lac La Biche's Alexander Hamilton Park on the evening of May 1.

LAC LA BICHE – Youth from the Lac La Biche area, along with their fathers, grandfathers, and other relatives, were at Alexander Hamilton Park on May 1 for the annual ‘Dad and Me’ event.

‘Dad and Me’ is put on through the Lac La Biche County FCSS Young Family Connections program and featured an outdoor meal, musical entertainment, a fur display, as well as a chance to learn about fish that live in the pond at the park.

The provincial department of Environment and Protected Areas had a fish tank set up at Alexander Hamilton Park, and families could check out and even handle rainbow trout before they were released into the park’s pond.

Amanda Cheyne, the program supervisor for FCSS, said the ‘Dad and Me’ event is an opportunity for significant male role models and children to socialize, participate in programming, and connect in a safe environment.

“We know that the heart of the community is its people, and in order to have resilient people, programs like this are really important, and this is just a really unique opportunity for our county,” Cheyne said.
