LAC LA BICHE - Construction is paused on the new McDonald’s restaurant that broke ground in Lac La Biche last month.
According to Ryan Fournier, the press secretary for Environment and Protected Areas, “no stop work order has been issued.”
“Construction was voluntarily paused as we work with the developer to ensure all requirements under the Water Act are met. Until this work is complete, it would be inappropriate to comment further but we look forward to a timely resolution to this matter,” said Fournier.
The McDonald’s is being built by Kor Alta Construction, an Edmonton-based company that does industrial and commercial projects in Western Canada. The construction site is located west of the Independent Grocer on 101 Ave.
According to Lac La Biche Mayor Paul Reutov, pausing construction is “merely a formality” because of the proximity of the location to a wetland.
“They had to tie into the utilities, which are in that area, but there’s no way you can tie into the utilities unless you go into that spot,” said Reutov. “We [Lac La Biche County] went through the same process when we did construction on the other side.”
