Delval Divas promise fun and enjoyment

The latest Lac La Biche Players Community Theatre production is looking to show that you only need six actresses and two sets to create an absolutely enjoyable show.

The latest Lac La Biche Players Community Theatre production is looking to show that you only need six actresses and two sets to create an absolutely enjoyable show.

That’ s what the production company hopes to prove when Delval Divas comes to McGrane Theatre on April 21, 22, 28 and 29.

The play is about four worldly, educated and successful women who all end up in a white-collar prison after committing white-collar crimes. They continue to enjoy lifestyles of luxury and privilege even in prison until another women - a hairdresser charged with murdering her ex-husband’ s third wife - comes to the prison, which changes the vibe of the place.

Bringing in a security guard to the mix as well, and the group of six engage in witty banter and interesting character development.

“It’ s a showcase of highly intelligent women and how they incorporate into the diva ‘clique,’ ” said the show’ s stage manager Crystal McMillan.

The cast and crew of the performance have been working on the play since November last year, when director Anita Polturak and producer Carmen Syre held open auditions for acting parts.

The duo chose the production in December following the auditions, once they knew which actors would be in the play. This time, there was a unique circumstance.

“We chose the play based on who auditioned,” said McMillan. “Only females came out to audition this time, so we picked this play because of that.”

The group started rehearsing Delval Divas in January.

The actress playing the security guard will be making her theatre debut when the show plays on Friday. All of the other actresses have been in theatre before, two of them with Lac La Biche Players Community Theatre and the other three have been involved elsewhere.

McMillan said she believes the rehearsals have gone well and that the show will be a success in the line of past productions by the company.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves,” she said. “This will be another great production by the Players.”

All of the Delval Divas shows start at 7:30 p.m.
