If there’ s one thing you can expect at the Pow Wow Days festival’ s Saturday night concert, it’ s...well...anything, really.

Headlining the concert is David “Jukebox” Leigh, a singer who won’ t confine himself to any one musical genre-or the stage, for that matter-and who makes it his mission to get every audience singing and dancing along.

It will be Leigh’ s first large public performance in this area and he says show-goers are in for an involving performance.

“I’ m interactive, you know,” he said, comparing himself to a sailor who’ s lured overboard by a siren’ s tempting calls. “That’ s like me with the audience. I always want to get close to the crowd and get people singing and dancing.”

As a drummer earlier in his career, Leigh observed a lot of crowds and decided he didn’ t want to be a stationary musician. He likes to roam around, encouraging people to “let loose,” he says.

That’ s about all people can be certain of, because you don’ t earn a nickname like Jukebox by playing the same thing all the time.

“I earned that nickname just by being into every kind of music,” he said. “You pull out whatever the crowd really wants to hear. (The audience) could see anything. You never know.”

The concert’ s other act, the Traumahawks, have also made musical variety a hallmark of their performing style.

“Our thing is really diverse sets,” said bass guitarist Jamal Amblie.

The Traumahawks are one of Lac La Biche’ s best-known cover bands. The band also features lead vocalist Micheal Wheeler, drummer Dizam Solis and guitarist and vocalist Patrick Wheeler.

Amblie says the entertainment scene in Lac La Biche has expanded a great deal in recent years, leading to more frequent shows and more opportunities for growth. A high-profile performance at Pow Wow Days is a major stepping-stone on the way to greater success, he says.

“It brings us a whole lot of exposure. You never know who’ s going to see you or come up and get ahold of you,” he said. “We’ ve always loved Pow Wow. It’ s huge for us to be on the main stage.”

The concert begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 and will take place in the Cenovus Fieldhouse at the Bold Center. Minors will not be allowed entry.
