A woman from the Lac La Biche area pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud over $5,000 in St. Paul Provincial Court last week. Karen Young, 55, has been sentenced to 18 months on a suspended sentence.
A woman from the Lac La Biche area pleaded guilty to a charge of fraud over $5,000 in St. Paul Provincial Court last week.
Karen Young, 55, has been sentenced to 18 months on a suspended sentence. She is currently on probation and has been ordered to make a $5,000 donation to a cancer charity.
The RCMP arrested Young and her husband after a year-long investigation. The pair’ s first court appearance was in Lac La Biche in March 2014. Her husband’ s charges were ultimately withdrawn.
The couple was originally charged with fraud for allegedly staging a fundraiser in 2012, to raise money to treat a medical condition Young allegedly didn’ t have.
