LAC LA BICHE – As of the afternoon of May 1, a fire ban is in effect for the permitting area of Lac La Biche County.
According to information from the municipality, the fire ban has been put into place due to recent extremely dry conditions and higher temperatures.
“The fire ban will remain in effect until conditions improve,” according to Lac La Biche County.
Under this ban, all fire permits are suspected or cancelled.
“No new fire permits will be issued.”
While the ban is in effect, all outdoor wood fires, including wood campfires on public land, private land, designated campgrounds and backyard firepits are prohibited.
Also not permitted are barbeque charcoal briquettes, fireworks, as well as exploding targets.
As for what is allowed under the fire ban, residents can use propane and natural gas-powered appliances, as well as indoor wood fires inside of a structure, such as a facility, building, tent or RV, contained within a device with a chimney and spark arrestor. Open flame oil devices such as deep fryers and tiki torches are also permitted.
Other nearby areas with fire bans in place include Smoky Lake County and Two Hills County. Other areas have fire restrictions in place, such as the County of St. Paul and MD of Bonnyville.
