LAC LA BICHE – As of the morning of May 29, one week after it was downgraded to a restriction, a fire ban is back in effect for Lac La Biche County’s permitting area.

According to information from the municipality, the reason for reinstating the fire ban is because of high temperatures and “a landscape that is quickly drying out.”

“All fire permits are hereby suspended or cancelled, and no new fire permits will be issued,” stated the County.

Under the ban, all outdoor wood fires, which includes wood campfires on public land, private land, designated campgrounds and backyard firepits, are hereby prohibited. Also disallowed are barbecue briquettes, fireworks and exploding targets.

As for what is permitted while the ban remains in effect, residents can use propane or natural gas-powered appliances, open flame devices such as deep fryers and tiki torches, along with “indoor wood fires inside a structure and contained within a device with a chimney and spark.”
