Many of Monday's Family Day Festival activities slated for the Alexander Hamilton Park are moving indooors to the Bold Center.
After checking the weather forecast, Lac La Biche County officials have opted for comfort over the cold. So as daytime temperatures drop to the -20 mark, families will be safe and warm inside the Bold Center for an afternoon of activities, says Christine Martin, the community outreatch worker with Lac La Biche County's FCSS department.
Starting at noon and going to 3 pm, the packed indoor agenda will also heat up the afternoon with free public skating, an inflatable adventure course, face painting, local musicians the Two Euros, an indoor fishing hole, crafts, seniors' activities, free food, family photos and a 1 pm. performance by the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre Group.
"Even though we would love to have the event outdoors, the forecasted conditions make us feel that it would be a better idea to move the event to the Bold Center where we know the entertainment portion of the day will definitely work, and we will maybe attract more residents who may not have attended in cold outside conditions," says Christine Martin, the community outreach worker with Lac La Biche County's FCSS department.
If you want to stay outside...
Despite all the move of activities to inside the Bold Center, the municipally-opertied Alexander Hamilton Park will still be available for anyone wanting some outdoor family fun on the toboggan hill or the skating pond.
"It’s important to note that if people choose, they can still go to the Alexander Hamilton Park to sled, have a campfire, or just enjoy some time out there," says Martin, encouraging community members to take advantage of the fun day. "They can come to the Bold Center to eat or watch the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre group perform at 1 pm, and then head to the park if conditions are favourable."
Last year's Family Day event was also affected by the weather as the area was in the midst of an Arctic blast that saw events scaled down and moved to McArthur Place.
