Humble but optimistic beginnings for seniors connection group

Humble beginnings for Coffee & Connection - key word "beginnings."

On January 23, three seniors met at the McArthur Place Tea Room for an hour. They were the first to take part in what is hoped to be a weekly gathering for the community's seniors. The goal of Coffee & Connection is to bring seniors together in an attempt to diminish loneliness and increase connection. The plan is to have it run each Thursday at the Tea Room from 10 am to 11.

Last Thursday morning, there was coffee, treats, and conversation among the trio of familiar faces.

“They all knew each other, but they don’t see each other often, so it was nice for them to catch up,” says Trish Leduc, the Seniors Outreach Worker with Lac La Biche County's Family and Community Support Services — the department organizing the meet and greet program.

The conversation among the three acquaintances revolved around personal interests, local and national history, and old stories.
It's hoped that a new story will spread for next Thursday's sitting; one that brings more people to the Coffee & Connection tables. Leduc hopes to see a few more faces for the next sitting.

“I am optimistic that next week we will get a few more. The three that were here for the first Coffee & Connection are really excited for it,” says Leduc.

Coffee & Connection will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11 am at the McArthur Place Tea Room - all seniors are welcome.
