LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Rotary Club has a secret. And it’s one that more than 250 people will soon want to know the answer to.
“I’m not telling you,” said club executive member Sue Ward with a laugh after being asked what ingredients were going into the batter for the Summer Days Community Fish Fry on Saturday. “We do our own batter each year — but you never know — it changes.”
Fine, Susan — Keep your delicious, light and tasty Rotary fish-fry-batter recipe to yourself. We don’t care … it tastes so good, you can be forgiven.
Ward did tell us that the club is ordering as many as 250 filets of Northern Pike for Saturday’s late afternoon’s Community Fish Fry at McArthur Place. Each fillet is eight ounces and will gain a little more weight with that secret batter that is lightly fried on cooking grills.
“It’s not deep-fried. I’ll tell you that. It’s fried lightly on the grill and it tastes great,” she said.
Rotary club members and their supporters from the community will be working the grills from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Volunteers will also be dishing up a side of salad and an ice-cream treat for desert.
“We’ll have a crew of about 15. Some will be cooking, some serving, some cleaning up,” she said, purposely leaving out anyone who might … just might … let that batter recipe slip. “This is our fourth year doing the fish fry, and it’s a great way to be visible in the community we serve. And it’s a lot of fun.”
The fish-fry meal is $10 a plate for adults, and $5 for children six and under who are accompanied by an adult.
All the proceeds from the fish fry go towards local community projects, student learning opportunities and donations from the Lac La Biche Rotary Club.
