JAWS graduates celebrate with parade and grad ceremony

The events took place on June 14.

LAC LA BICHE – June 14 was a day of happiness and excitement for the more than 100 members of the JA Williams (JAWS) High School, Crossroads Outreach School, Journeys Academic Learning, and the Lac La Biche Outreach School grad classes of 2025.

The first part of the graduation event got underway around noon with a vehicle parade. Under cloudy and drizzly skies, the long procession, which was led by a Lac La Biche County community peace officer truck and featured a variety of classic cars and interesting vehicle, rolled along Beaver Hill Road and 91 Avenue before stopping at the high school.

Family members, friends, and members of the public stood along the route watching the parade.

Following the parade, graduates prepared for their formal convocation ceremony by getting fitted with caps and gowns and having photos taken.

The official ceremony began at 1:30 p.m., with the graduates, along with guests and local dignitaries, gathering inside the fieldhouse at the Bold Centre. The ceremony featured speeches from Northern Lights Public Schools officials, along with the two valedictorians representing the class of 2025, Brooke Pruden and Layne Cadieux.

Once this portion of the ceremony had concluded, the graduates were called up to the stages one by one to be given their diplomas. The ceremony wrapped up with a grand march.
