Signs detour motorists around downtown Lac La Biche construction

It begins.

Motorists in the Lac La Biche hamlet are getting an overload of construction and travel information to start May.  Construction began on Monday in the downtown core to replace aging underground utility infrastructure and to update the area with new sidewalks, new street paving, new lighting and new decorative features.  The construction area along Main Street between 103 Street and 102 Street will be in effect until October. The project is part of a $31.5 million makeover that will take three years to complete, and completely upgrade a four-block section of the community's downtown core.

Getting around

Starting the new week, drivers were met with signs saying no parking, detour, road closed, and even one signaling a new round-about near the Value Drugs store on 102 Street. Traffic along the downtown corridor has been moved to back alleyways and surface streets north and south of the construction area.

Many local businesses within the construction zone have added back-alley access for customers. Downtown parking within the construction area has been moved to the parking areas south of Main Street near the CN rail tracks.
