Lac La Biche Ag Society to host annual fall community garage sale in September

The event provides an opportunity for people to sell unwanted items from their home that may otherwise find their way into local landfills.

LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Agricultural Society will be hosting its annual fall community garage sale on Sept. 13.

According to Bev Tkachuk, a member of the Ag Society who also manages the Lac La Biche Farmer’s Market, the sale will take place at the Lakeland Agricom from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The event typically draws around 20 vendors. These vendors sell a variety of household items ranging from housewares, tools, and clothing, to plants, toys, games and electronics.

“We already got people asking when the fall garage sale is going to be,” Tkachuk said. She explained that folks who would like to book a table can call or text her at 780-623-0503.

“It’s only $5 per table. We’ll have a concession running as well, and those proceeds go to the Lac La Biche Ag Society. It’s pretty simple to do.”

The annual community fall garage sale has been going on for about 13 years. The Ag Society used to do just a yearly spring sale but decided to add a fall one due to interest from the community.

The garage sale is not so much a fundraiser for the Ag Society but is a way for people to sell off items that might otherwise find their way into local landfills. It’s also an avenue for folks to socialize and look for treasures.

“The garage sales are more like a community event, just to give the community a place to get rid of or trade their treasures, as opposed to filling the landfills with these things,” she said. “People love treasure hunting, and garage sales are the place to treasure hunt.”

The fall garage sale brings vendors and shoppers from the Lac La Biche area, as well as different parts of the northeast region.

“We’ve actually had vendors from St. Paul come . . . We get people the other way from Wandering River area coming [too],” she said. “Garage sales are a big thing, and people travel.”
