LAC LA BICHE – The palliative care room inside the acute care unit of the William J. Cadzow Health Centre will get some needed renovations thanks to a $18,872 donation provided by the Kinette Club of Lac La Biche to the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation.

On July 16, members of the Kinette Club were at the William J. Cadzow Health Centre to present the cheque to Omer Moghrabi, chair of the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation. The foundation, formed in 2015, raises money to help purchase medical equipment for direct patient care at the local hospital and supports health-related programs in the Lac La Biche area.

According to Debbie Hyrnyk, a member of the Kinette Club, the money was raised through casino events attended by the community organization in Fort McMurray.

“It’s something that is needed,” said Hyrnyk of the project. “I think it’s great for the Lac La Biche Kinettes to be able to do this for the community, and for the community to be able to receive it.”

The Kinette Club, Hyrnyk continued, felt the palliative care room inside the hospital could use some updates, including fresh paint and few furniture. The goal is to make the area a bit more comfortable for people to be able to spend time with their loved ones in their final days.

The Kinettes are involved in various fundraising initiatives in the Lac La Biche community.

“We will sponsor the hospital foundation events . . . We will sponsor community events. . . If schools are looking for funding for playgrounds, we will help them out,” she said. “So whatever money that the Lac La Biche Kinettes get stays in the community to support organizations within the Lac La Biche County region.”

“It’s a great thing done by the Kinettes for sure,” Moghrabi said.

Over the past decade, the health foundation has worked hard to get as many things as possible into the local hospital.

And “We’ll keep doing that,” he said.
