The Lac La Biche Knights of Columbus are asking residents to help raise funds for the Philippines.
KC member Ernie Sehn explained that the Knights of Columbus head office has created an account to collect the funds. The Knights and the federal government will then match the funds, making the contribution triple what it is. The money goes to the Knights' members in the Philippines who will see that it goes to the right place.
"These funds will go directly to Knights of Columbus on the ground or charitable groups on the ground so there's no go betweens, no 10 per cent here and 10 per cent there,” he said. "It's a direct, complete transfer of all the funds to people on the ground who see that it goes to where the need is.
"Clearly the need is great and we're approaching the time of the year where we're supposed to be in the spirit of giving,” Sehn added.
Cheques can be made out to Knights of Columbus Canada Charities Inc. with Philippines disaster fund written in the 'memo' section of the cheque. The mailing address is: Knights of Columbus Canada Charities Inc. Gift processing centre Box 7252 Station A, Toronto, ON M5W 1X9
All cheques must be received by Dec. 8.
