Lac La Biche 4-H District hosts annual Achievement Day

The event took place at the Bold Centre on June 7 and featured a poultry and beef show, along with displays made by members highlighting areas such as sewing, cooking, fields crops and entomology.

LAC LA BICHE – The accomplishments made by members of the Lac La Biche 4-H District were celebrated at the club’s annual Achievement Day at the Bold Centre on June 7.

The event got underway in the early afternoon with a poultry show featuring members of the club showing chickens they had raised. Parents of the participants and members of the public watched as the chickens were evaluated by judge Lindsay Kozakevich.

Steers that had been raised by members of the 4-H club were then showcased during the beef show and sale. The participants in the beef show competed in the senior and junior showmanship and grooming categories, as well as Cleaver bottle babies. There were also awards for grand champion, reserve champion, and rate of gain. The beef show’s competitors and their steers were assessed by a panel of judges.

Those who attended the 2025 Achievement Day could also view a variety of displays made by 4-H members, highlighting such areas as sewing, cooking, field crops, and entomology.

Lac La Biche 4-H member Leyla Gordey competed in the poultry show with her chicken, ‘Big Guy’, and in the beef show and sale in the junior category with a steer named ‘Cowabunga.’

Gordey, who also serves as the club reporter for the Lac La Biche 4-H District, said achievement day is important for 4-H members because it provides an opportunity to showcase the hard work they have done throughout the year.

“I like that we get to show it to the public, and we get to show that we don’t just do one thing . . . we do multiple things,” Gordey said.

In preparation for the annual achievement day, members came to the Bold Centre a day early to set up and get their stalls ready for the beef show.

“When the show comes, we shine them up basically, and finish them off, and then we do our shows,” she explained.
